Nina Simone's Wild Is The Wind, from March 1966, and its breathlessly engaging title track, were compiled from several recordings that were left over from sessions for previous albums for Phillips. In 2020 the album was ranked No. 212 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, naming it among Simone's "most enthralling and eclectic. With her dusky voice at its most commanding, Simone works her way through roadhouse soul ('I Love Your Lovin' Ways') and dramatic set pieces (the melancholic 'Lilac Wine,' later covered by Jeff Buckley). It peaks with 'Four Women,' an ambitious saga of racially diverse women and their struggles, written by Simone."
